2. I.M. Pei has done it again...

Now here is an incredible (incredibly old, too, might I add) man who has worked with other great men such as Walter Gropius. Time and age does not prevent him from pouring his entire heart into this project. "Mr. Pei spent months traveling across Europe and North Africa before earnestly beginning work on the final design of the glass pyramids that now anchor the museum’s central court." That was written in the article about his efforts towards the Louvre Pyramid. The article goes in-depth about how he successfully fuses the Islamic tradition of ancient times and of today's. How could he have executed this without having studied the Islamic art & architecture, lived in the country, and experienced the people? That's what an artist is about: expressing one's identity. Just as art in Imperial Rome was used for propaganda, art must make a statement. It really frustrates me when the artist is deliberately ambiguous because I'm just not comfortable with that. But when a structure like this so clearly states what it's about, I love it. Now I must go to Qatar and see this wonderful structure floating on a man-made island. =)

My brother's coming home tomorrow! How wonderful. You know we hardly have any pictures together? How sad is that? Maybe I'll snag some this winter break.

i'm not going to korea.. for the second time this year.
this is worse than those times in high school when every summer my parents said i'd go and then suddenly change their minds.

this is much worse.

yesterday, i changed the itinerary for my brother because he's unable to go this winter break. that was successful and an email was sent to daddy to confirm. but he calls today around 4am saying that my itinerary was also changed. WHAT?! then i looked closer. and my brother and i were under the same confirmation number and i guess any changes are made as a package. so now we're rescheduled to leave may19th, 2oo9.

my question is.. why God? seriously?
you already prevented me from going once during the summer.. why now? this time, it wasn't even my fault! last time, yea i gave my passport to teachoverseas.org and i couldn't get it back. i understand. but this time i didn't do anything explicitly wrong. my family in korea are disappointed for the second time all wondering the same thing. why God? is it because you want me to prepare for the winter retreat i'm going to serve at? is it because you want me to stay at home and get to know the international students? is it because you want me to spend more time with my mom and my brother? it's probably all of the above and then some, right? =)

in the end.. i can't be mad because i know that this is all in His hands. i wish i could be frustrated at the lady i talked to yesterday about making changes because she could've said, "well hey there, your itinerary is also going to be changed. bet you don't want that since you never mentioned it"... but o well.


c'est la vie.

so over the summer, we renovated our basement and created three small bedrooms to accomodate the two international students and my brother & i. our house is small to begin with so adding those three bedrooms was a big deal. and hopefully it'll sell better when we decide to move out. i've moved into one of the basement rooms and actually, it's not bad. it's prob. 12x12 about the same size as the room @ the village and it's pretty cozy. the only bad thing is i never know what time of the day it is because i'm in the basement. today i woke up at 930am and thought it was still nighttime. there's something about moving into a new place (even if it's within the same house) that gets me all excited. i wanna keep it clean, organize everything, make it personal, etc. of course, this excitement lasts for a whole 3 days and it goes downhill from there.

but it still looks great. we also got upgraded our toilet so that it sprays water after you go #2.. it's the weirdest feeling, believe me. apparently it's all the rage everywhere else.. except our house.

i'm a bit nervous to go to korea tomorrow. what in the world will i do everyday? i realized it would be quite difficult to meet up with people because i will not have a cell phone. i know i'm going to pusan for a few days to visit my daddy's side of the family. but everyone so much older than me that i can't just "hang out" with 'em.

but me and my independent self will go exploring, capture lots of photos, and hopefully go to the seoul museum of art (SeMA).

i'll be back on the 26th. maybe i'll find a pc bang and update every now & then. ^ ^

OMYGOODNESS.
i'm finished with my second to last semester.
i just finished the senior project with my uber awesome partner.
turned in my take home final.

wow. wow. wow.

things are falling into place.
i just gotta concentrate on those applications and pray real hard. i didn't get into Case on sheer genius but by God's grace. I know He'll provide a way for graduate schools, too.

here are some things that have been happening:
1. i'm the new music director for case in point! i'm so excited to be leading cip to a whole new level.
2. i am definitely not doing iv internship and going to graduate school. that is.. if i get accepted. =)
3. i got a 4.5 on my writing for the GREs so i am safe. i will not be retaking the GREs, thank goodness. even though i did absolutely tragic on the verbal and math due to my terrible test taking skills, i think my writing score saved me.

5. four of my friends and i have decided to lose weight by the end of next semester. my goal weight? 115... O____o. and if i do achieve it.. yoon's gonna buy me something big and important. maybe camera lens..? x]
6. i still haven't heard back from the cleveland museum of art internship.. i'm afraid i didn't get it. =(



well that's all. good break from studying. =) study hard, everyone!~

First time spending thanksgiving ON CAMPUS.
Previous years I've gone home or went to someone's house. Which was equally (if not more) fun! But staying on campus was whole 'nother experience. =)

So.. the internet was being reeal stupid over the weekend so I didn't get to update at all!

SATURDAY...
I finished two outlines for my papers... which I'll have to writeup this weekend and went grocery shopping/xmas shopping and then set up a xmas tree with yoon! my first one! it's only 1.5' tall but it's so cute. no fancy ornaments bc I have no collection. But I will now!

Then later for leadership meeting we went to Jopan's place and MORE fooood!!!

I think this quote is really interesting because in the presentation that we gave we were arguing that the idea of the artist manipulating the way the viewer's perceive a work of art was crucial to the European exhibition culture (specifically in France and Britain) and that they had to devise new ways of brushwork, composition, and subject in order to engage the viewer.
